Little Miss Muffet
Has won another prize
For vague and pointless imagery
And a pallid pack of lies
Pampered little princess,
A flawless diamond ring
I think we’ve seen it all before:
“The Girl With Everything”
(But a validated standard!
And she pees the best perfume!
And excretes the little biscuits
That fascinate the room...)
Yet beneath the placid surface
Of her safe, respected hype
There’s a state-supported phoniness
That shelters her from life
The kind that’s forged by loneliness —
Rejection, ridicule
That thrives on being overlooked
And forever overruled
But like a pit of coal we wait
As the world around decays
Until our blackness burns so bright
It frightens them away
